Staying Warm with Insulated Boots for Law Enforcement, Work, and Hiking
Cold feet make for a long shift. But when you are shopping for winter boots, phrases like “500 g/m2” and “GORE-TEX® THERMIUM liner” can be confusing.
HAIX Makes insulated boots for work, duty, and field use. As the weather gets colder in North America, we want to provide an in-depth look at the boots that will carry you through winter in warmth and comfort.
How to Read Insulated Weight (g/m2) of Boots
Insulated weight is measured in grams per square meter. Simply put, how much quantity of insulated material is used in a square foot of the boot’s liner. A higher number generally means more warmth, though it also depends on if the insulation is around the entire foot only in the sole or toebox.
300 g/m2 — A lighter layer. This works best when you are moving a lot and generating your own body heat.
350 g/m2 — A medium layer of insulation suited to active jobs in cold environments.
500 g/m2 — A heaver layer built for colder conditions like direct exposure to snow and ice.
570 g/m2 — The heaviest insulation available at HAIX. Used only in the toebox of Trooper police boots.
It is important to consider that insulation weight is not a temperature rating. How warm a boot feels also depends on your socks, how active you are, wind chill, and how long you are exposed.
How HAIX Insulated Boots Stay Dry and Warm
Insulation only helps if it stays dry. Wet insulation loses warmth fast. These HAIX boots pair insulation with a waterproof GORE-TEX® liner, so rain, slush, and snow stay out. Because the liner is breathable, sweat can still escape, which keeps your socks drier and your feet warmer.
Each of these boots also uses the HAIX® Climate System. It moves air through the boot as you walk, pushing moisture out and drawing fresh air in.
We also recommend using moisture-wicking or wool-blend socks in insulated boots, as they help regulate foot temperature and prevent hot spots and blisters.
Insulated Law Enforcement Boots
Enforce X High Winter: Insulated Duty Boot for Patrol
The Enforce X High Winter is built for law enforcement and uniformed work. It is a 7-inch boot with 500 g/m² of insulation and a GORE-TEX® Insulated liner. This boot adds warmth for winter patrols without giving up the breathability you need in warmer months.
- Best for: Patrol officers, security, and anyone on foot outdoors through winter shifts
- Upper: European bullhide leather that meets uniform standards
- Comfort: Lightweight build, HAIX shock absorption, and 2-zone lacing for a custom fit
- Traction: Anti-slip sole
Trooper GTX Side Zip: All-Season Duty Boot With an Insulated Toe Box
HAIX built 570 g/m² of insulation into the toe box of the Trooper, so your toes stay warm without making the whole boot heavy or hot. It is an 8-inch duty boot with a waterproof, breathable CROSSTECH® liner.
- Best for: Patrol, SWAT, and other law enforcement work in a climate that swings from cold mornings to warm afternoons
- Insulation: 570 g/m² in the toe box only. The rest of the boot is not insulated to that level, which is what makes this an all season boot.
- Upper: Bullhide leather and abrasion-resistant textile
If your winters are cold but your shifts are long and active, this is the boot that keeps your toes warm without overheating the rest of your foot.
